I would just like to say what a pleasure it was working with my group. I think everything went really smooth with the whole project, as well as the presentation.  I enjoyed the English class as a whole, I think I really learned a lot. The research paper was interesting, and I learned some new skills on how to do research. The resume information was needed, and extremely useful.                                                                                                                   I like how we all got to do teamwork together, I know in the real world how important that is.  I would just like to say that it was a pleasure to share the class with everyone.

It’s been a while since I’ve last posted on my blog so I figured I should do ehh maybe like 3 more before this semester ends so in this blog I will talk about my progress on the Formal Report Project.

Overall, I am not too worried about it right now.  I don’t think we’re going to get anything lower than a B.  In fact, I feel that if my group makes the all corrections and the other stuff we should get an A.  We should be able to make the corrections to it by the due date, no late amnesty needed for this.

My group is going fourth so we’re probably going on Wednesday, although realistically all groups could go tomorrow.  My portion is done but it’s not all done yet so I guess that could be one concern.

Good luck to all who is presenting tomorrow.

Subject: Example Analysis

Ex 1.

In this first example id have to say that it was a pretty good one and it would rank above the other two it had some good and bad in it. For example Id have to say that this example had some rational appeal to it when it mentioned you could save between 300 and 1400 dollars on health care and it I like that it gave them a choice between saving money or spending more money. This example made a strong case for taking the test.

Ex 2.

I really liked the happy up beat tone of this example it talked about how it’s a new year and there joining the bandwagon. I would have ranked this one as the most effective one but unfortunately in our book it says we shouldn’t try to manipulate employees but rather make a strong argument. Id have to say that if this was about getting the employees to take the test this one would win because it doesn’t directly say there will be a 10 percent increase which is a little sneaky but something id totally do personally

Ex 3.

This is example was the worst it felt as if the company was trying to force this blood test on its employees. Unlike the other two where they say its voluntary and up to you right in the very beginning they say we are asking you to take the test which sounds more like telling you to take it.

In conclusion I would rank them in the exact same order they are arranged in with the first one being the best and the third one being the worst. I hope this was of use to you in creating your student guide book

Sincerely,

Carson Murakami

English day 2 notes

When was the last time you had a communication problem?

I was driving with friends in town when a moped pulled up to us and started yelling. We rolled down the window and yelled back and when we pulled up to the red light we asked him what he said and he said he was just asking if we wanted to go to zippys we got out of the car and he ran the red light.

Im not sure who wasn’t understanding who. I was pretty sure he didn’t ask us if we wanted to go to zippy’s so I was pretty confused.

Lack of communication

Misinterpretation

Cultural differences.

My friends are mostly guys like me who didn’t excel in school and chose to party and have fun instead of work hard now we are all currently trying to figure out what we will do in life. I am currently in a two year relationship not sure whats going to happen with her just going with the flow and seeing where it ends up. I am still living with my parents and it looks like home. I like to go to the gym and work out, I also like to do boxing and kickboxing. My health is decent but I am a smoker so I know that I have to quit or it could have life threatening consequences. I work at a heavy equipment rental company.

I came to get a few beers and some dinner at the windward mall location on September 13. I went with about 5 of my friends we walk in and a friendly host greets us, we were taken to our table in a professional manner, we were told Zack would be taking care of us for the evening, which to my surprise was my good friend. Zack quickly came with our waters and asked us if we were ready to order. Our order was taken and our drinks to come out shortly, a round of Modelo’s came out within 5 minutes, which was surprisingly quick as the restaurant was currently filling up. Our food took no longer than 20 minutes which didn’t feel long at all. I had ordered the loaded nachos for the table and a basket of mango habanero wings for myself which I highly recommend. Although the wings were spicy the flavor was there. Nothing beats wings, beers, good company, and friendly service. Zack frequently came to check up on us and offered extra napkins and more water when needed. There were many positive aspects to my first visit, the first being the excellent service provided. Another thing that caught my attention was the heavily inviting atmosphere, lots of large television screens for watching the fights and sports. The servers were also very nice and allowed us to change the channel on the television next to our table upon request. They were polite and came quickly with our second round of drinks. When Zack was busy other servers/food runners were there to attend to our needs. I quickly came to find out that there were devices similar to ipads that allowed us to play a bunch of random games, one of which included poker. The poker was actually set up on one of the large television screens which appealed to me. The games were interconnected, poker was being played with 5 different people around the restaurant which was another satisfying factor. Having a large selection of beers on tap probably had to be my favorite thing about this restaurant as Kaneohe usually doesn’t have any restaurants offering this. It almost felt like a small, downsized version of Yardhouse considering there were a bunch of finger food options and a bunch of beers/liquor available to your choosing. My third drink was a buffalo zoo. I don’t exactly remember the components of this drink but the flavor was there as well as giving me a slight buzz at the same time. As our night came to an end, my friend/server Zack offered to buy us all a shot of Rumple Minze which was a minty flavored 100 proof shot (50% alcohol) This had to be one of the better shots for the amount of alcohol content that was inside. Our shots were then followed by our checks, which Zack was kind enough to split 4 ways. Overall this has to be one the better experiences I’ve had at a Kaneohe restaurant.

Hope you all had a good Thanksgiving and Thanksgiving weekend. I spent part of it viewing some of the recent blogs and have come to really enjoy the effort and in depth writing that many of you put into each post.

The posts that really stood out to me is the pet peeve workplace expectations and critics. Many of these negative traits or habits appeared in multiple blogs where many of you had experienced similar situations within the workplace if you had given detail. Workers that don’t take responsibility or take all the credit are the worst. Sheila included a picture of a constructive criticism sandwich, it summed everything up rather well.

Dear Brendan DeSmet:

I am writing you because I am applying for the Veterinary Assistant position at Acacia Animal Hospital advertised on the ZipRecruiter website. I am currently in process of getting my certificate in the Veterinary Assistant/Technician Program at Windward community College in Hawaii.

I have good animal handling and care skills. For example, I am an intern at the Honolulu Zoo in the veterinary clinic. I regularly clean kennels and feed sun bears, quarantine animals, and sick and injured animals. I help prepare medications and assist Veterinarians and Veterinary Technicians in procedures. I am also enrolled in a course called “ANSC152: Companion Animal Nursing (LAB)” at Windward Community College which enables me to obtain a complete patient record, perform Physical Exams, perform basic grooming and administer medications, and discuss proper animal care for domesticated animals. I have good computer skills and enrolled in a course called “BUSN 191: Veterinary Office and Computer Skills” at WCC. Therefore, I will be able to use a variety of computer programs that are essential for running a veterinary practice. I am currently taking courses “ANSC151L:Clinical Laboratory Techniques (LAB)” that provides me skills to perform laboratory analysis for specimens (hematology, urinalysis, parasitology, and clinical chemistry), use proper maintenance with veterinary lab equipment (microscope, etc), and use critical thinking to determine diagnostic information; “ANSC152:Companion Animal Diseases and Nutrition” which expands my knowledge in discussing energy and nutrition requirements for various life stages of dogs and cats and problem solving: Knowing the clinical signs, diagnostic tests and treatment of common diseases in dogs and cats.

Please email at kkahumok@hawaii.edu or call me at (808)283-6248. I am likely to answer the phone between 8:00 AM-10:00 AM and between 4:00 PM- 8:00 PM (Hawaii time), Monday through Friday. If I am unable to answer the phone, please leave a message. I will return your call as soon as possible. I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,

Kellie-Ann Kahumoku
